The 1930’s were marked by the Great Depression. However, many manufactured inventions and manufacturing methods were developed in the 1930’s.
Notable Manufactured Inventions from the 1930’s
The jet engine was invented in 1930 by Hans von Ohain and Frank Whittle.
The car radio was invented in 1930 by brothers Joseph and Paul Galvin.

The helicopter was invented in 1939 by Igor Sikorsky.
There were many other manufactured inventions from the 1930’s. The list is quite impressive given that it all happened at the time of the Great Depression.
Manufacturing Methods
In a 1930’s article from Manufacturers’ News, the topic of automation and labor was discussed. The battle between machines, automation and workers has been going on for a long time.
The labor-saving examples included a worker moving from making 6 tires a day to making 100. A new steel cutting machine that could cut metal in seconds as opposed to hours. Automobile workers could churn out 8 times more cars than before. These were great leaps in productivity.

The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a world-wide economic downturn that occurred between 1929 and 1939, approximately.
The period was marked by a large decrease in industrial production and a large increase in unemployment to about 20%. Also in 1929, the stock market crashed by about 50%.
Amazingly, through this period manufactured inventions were still being created and manufacturing methods were still being improved.
