US Navy Uses Additive Manufacturing

A recent article from Metal Forming Magazine discusses how manufacturers and other organizations, including the US Navy, are utilizing additive manufacturing or 3D printing for fixturing and tooling.  Some of the benefits mentioned include a reduction in lead time and component weight.

Of course, 3D printing has benefits for complex prototypes and short run production parts as well.  These benefits include lead time reductions and in many cases, cost savings.
