We recently had the opportunity to machine components for an intake assembly associated with an organization doing research and development for artificial lift techniques in the oil and gas industry.
Being an R&D project, the order was only for 2 sets of components. The components were designed to be mating components that would also nest.
With such a small order, most of our time was spent in the machine set-up phase. The raw material was aluminum; therefore, machining was easy.
Some CNC machine shops may not be interested in small orders related to research and development, but we find the work interesting.
What is Artificial Lift?
Artificial lift is a process that oil and gas producers use to increase downhole pressure that helps push resources up to the surface. The most popular types of artificial lift are Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP), Hydraulic Lift, Gas Lift, Plunger Lift, Rod Lift and Progressive Cavity Pump (PCP).
